Earlier today, I completed the long trek from middle-of-Iowa/nowhere to Denver, complete with a fair amount of talking to myself and one night of sleeping at a rest area. I enjoyed just about every minute of it, but I was also very ready for it to be done. Being done, really, was the only expectation I had when reaching the Mile-High City, but my hosts for the night were prepped for so much more. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised. C was among the first people from law school that I met. On a few occasions already, I've written about the get-together that some of us had prior to beginning our first year, and it was C who hosted us all, fed us all, and entertained us all. Tonight, though, he wasn't alone, but instead had the assistance of his girlfriend, K, and they made for quite the dynamic team.
My low expectations of what the evening might be were quickly replaced with new adventures in a new town surrounded by new people. C and K were generous, gracious, and, though I think it may have been unintentional, they lifted me up. They were some of the best hosts I've had while on this journey, but I feel like that might be the baseline reaction they get from the people that stay with them. For the CK duo, that might just be the starting point for how they expect their guests to feel while in their company. Everybody that stays with them gets the royal treatment, but there's the possibility for much, much more. And that's exactly what I got. Much, much more. And I hope that, someday, I can be a friend like that.
